Cross-Docking Services in Vancouver

18 Wheels Warehousing & Trucking moves your freight from inbound carrier to outbound carrier without it ever hitting a storage rack. Product lands, gets sorted, and ships the same day.

That is the whole point of cross-docking. You stop paying to store inventory that was always going to move, and you cut days out of the time between your producer and your customer.

We run cross-dock operations out of facilities across Metro Vancouver, with a 24/7/365 gatehouse, an asset-based trucking fleet, and direct access to every major Vancouver port and rail terminal.

Port and Rail Cross-Docking for Import Containers

18 Wheels Cross Docking

Most of our cross-dock volume starts at the water. We pull import containers from Vancouver terminals, strip them at our dock, and reload the freight into domestic trailers or containers heading east.

Our gatehouse runs around the clock, so our drivers can take late-night pickup slots at the port when the daytime gates are congested. That flexibility is the difference between a container moving tonight and sitting until Thursday.

Our Delta Port Warehouse sits five minutes from the Delta Port gate with 35 loading dock doors and on-site container stackers. For Asia-Pacific imports, it is the shortest possible turn from vessel to outbound truck.

We also operate a CBSA customs exam-approved facility and hold bonded and sufferance status. Flagged containers are examined on our floor instead of waiting in a queue elsewhere.

What You Save by Cross-Docking Instead of Storing

The economics are straightforward once product stops being handled twice. Here is where the savings show up:

  • Lower labour cost, because freight is never picked, put away, or picked again
  • Lower storage cost, because you are not renting rack space for transient inventory
  • Faster speed to market, which matters most on promotional and seasonal goods
  • Less product damage, since every extra touch is a chance to break something
  • Better cash flow, because inventory converts to revenue instead of sitting

Cross-docking works best on high-turn goods, retail promotions, and freight with a known destination before it lands. If your product needs to wait for a purchase order, 3PL warehousing is the better fit, and we can do that under the same roof.

Consolidation and Deconsolidation That Cuts Freight Spend

Cross-docking is not just a straight pass-through. Our team rebuilds loads on the dock to match how your customers actually order.

Our consolidation and deconsolidation services move distribution decisions closer to demand. We can combine multiple inbound shipments into full outbound loads, or break a single container down into store-level deliveries across the region.

These are the dock services we run alongside a cross-dock program:

Our warehouse management system tracks every piece through the building, so you get visibility on freight that is only with us for a few hours.

The Facilities, Fleet, and Licences Behind Our Cross-Dock Operation

Cross-docking only works if the operator has capacity, coverage, and the right paperwork. We have all three.

We run 17 warehouse locations across Canada, from Metro Vancouver through Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Halifax. Freight can cross-dock in Vancouver and continue on our network instead of being handed to a stranger at the provincial border.

Our own trucking fleet handles the pickups and deliveries, which means we control both sides of the dock. When a vessel runs late or a customer moves a delivery window, we adjust the truck instead of renegotiating with a third-party carrier.

Our facilities carry bond, excise, and sufferance licences and hold SQF and HACCP certification, so regulated food, beverage, and alcohol freight can cross-dock without a compliance problem. Yards are gated and patrolled with 24/7 security.
