What Is Dedicated Warehousing?

What is Dedicated Warehousing

Very often, companies farm out their shipping and logistics needs to a third-party company. This service is called 3PL. As part of the shipping and logistics, many businesses require warehouse space for their products as they move along the supply chain. Dedicated warehousing refers to warehouse space that is dedicated to one business only as part of that company’s shipping and logistics.

Companies that have dedicated warehousing are typically larger companies moving a large volume of product. This warehousing may form part of their distribution network or it may be used for products that are coming from one mode of transportation and then entering a different mode, for example, getting off of cargo ships and onto trucks.

Dedicated warehousing from a third party may include many services. These services could be different types of automation within the warehouse, unpacking, repacking, branding, and other forms of marketing.

There may be other sophisticated services included in the dedicated warehousing such as special security or climate control for fragile products or products needing cold storage.

Dedicated warehousing is different from multi-client warehousing, which is when the products of several different companies are kept in the same warehouse, or public warehousing, which commonly lacks some of the sophisticated controls of dedicated warehousing.

The type of warehousing needed by a company depends on the size of the company, amount of product being transported, and the type of product. If you need help with the warehousing component of your shipping and logistics in British Columbia, call 18 Wheels Logistics at (604) 439-8938 in Vancouver.
