What Are the Basic Requirements For An Alcohol Warehousing Facility?

What Are the Basic Requirements For An Alcohol Warehousing Facility

What are the basic requirements for an alcohol warehousing facility? To legally store, sell or transport alcohol, you need an excise warehouse license. Instructions and requirements for obtaining an excise warehouse license are provided in Excise Duty Memorandum EDM2.2.1, Obtaining and Renewing a License, which can be found on the CRA website.

While a license is an essential requirement for an alcohol warehouse facility, there are a few other requirements you should look for when choosing between excise warehouses.

Refrigerated Storage

In most cases, alcohol products will need to be stored at a certain temperature to maintain quality and freshness. Therefore, an alcohol warehouse will usually store its product in a refrigerated storage section.

In addition, refrigeration equipment must be regularly serviced and maintained. Any damage to the equipment can mean delays for businesses, so be sure to carefully inspect the equipment of any warehouse.

Inventory Tracking and Reporting

Inventory tracking is an essential part of any alcohol warehousing facility. Why? For example, if you know how much you have in stock for your product, you can quickly replenish stock and avoid running out. This information can help you avoid lost sales and additional shipping costs.

However, not all warehouses keep track of the exact amount of alcohol products they have on hand. As a result, it is a good idea to work with a partner that has real-time inventory tracking methods in place.

Dedicated Staff

When transporting alcohol, dedicated staff can make all the difference. Alcohol beverages require careful handling, and the

warehouse you choose must have staff trained to handle alcohol.
