Trends and Innovations in Vancouver 3PL Warehousing

Trends and Innovations in Vancouver 3PL Warehousing

There are many trends and innovations in 3PL warehousing both in Vancouver, BC, a major port hub and elsewhere, worldwide. Many of these trends are extensions of what has been happening since the beginning of COVID. In today’s blog article, we would like to talk about what some of these trends and innovations are.

The Amazon Effect

Amazon’s business represents roughly 40% of all ecommerce sales in the US. That tight grip on the shipping market for which they have their own infrastructure has put pressure on other shippers to compete. This pressure translates into both an increase in customers’ demands for analytics on their shipping and warehousing and an increase in demand for efficient and cost-effective shipping and warehousing.

Going Green

There is a significant trend for warehouses to be more energy efficient in any way they can. Warehouses do this not just for the economics, but for the general sentiment of working to protect the environment. This is especially true in British Columbia, which is known for its strong environmental stance. For warehouses this can mean anything from using LED lighting to efforts to save water.

Automation

Since COVID, there has been an ongoing challenge finding enough people to staff every kind of business including shipping and warehousing. This challenge has fuelled automation in the warehouse which makes warehouses more efficient and also helps to make analytics easier.

These three trends mentioned above represent the biggest changes in 3PL warehousing in Vancouver moving forward. While warehouse space is tight and prices are fluctuating, savvy shippers are finding all kinds of novel ways to make use of every inch of space available.
