The Importance of Experience for Drayage Drivers

Drayage in itself isn’t extremely complex, essentially a driver will pick up a load and conduct transportation to its’ final destination. However, port drayage is more complicated with confusing seaport terminals and differing rules.

Shipments are assigned to one of various terminals located inside a port. These port terminals come with their own set of rules pertaining to appointments, hours of operation, container pickup, chassis usage, and so on. It can be expected that ports regularly notify carriers of rule changes that are in effect on the same day. In order to be time efficient and avoid wasting money, it’s important for your 3PL to have experienced drayage drivers that can adapt quickly to these changes. Without this experience, drivers can be wasting hours navigating around complex ports.
